![]() The defensive nature of Hellenic armies makes them strong against cavalry-based factions such as Parthia. However, Macedon not only has the highest tier of hoplites, but in addition they have the strongest Pike phalanx unit in the game (Foot Companions). Macedonian Shield Bearers are some of the best hoplites in the game, although there are some that are equal in the other factions such as Carthaginian Sacred Band. I don't play competitive multiplayer very often so I'm not sure about some of the auxiliary units being available for Rome in versus, but I know that the Syrian Archers are, and they are a very good unit. So you can get the best slingers and archers, making Rome the most powerful faction. Rome has the strongest melee infantry, and through auxiliaries in campaign they can field a lot of powerful unit types that aren't native to the faction. I'm by no means a seasoned multiplayers, this is just my understanding, hope it helps. Of course each faction have something special to offer comparing to their cultural brethren, and each of their weakness can be somewhat compensated by mercenaries. Iceni is similar to gallic barbarians with chariots.Īnd eastern kingdoms, like you said, have horses. Odrysian Kingdom has the best shock infantry unit and good javalinmen. They have one of the best slingers (longest range unit). I personally really like their top tier melee unit. Spanish tribes have good infantry, both melee and spear. Nomads only have shock and missile cavalries, so be prepared to fight a lot of pikes and spears if you choose them. Germanic tribe is good for scare tactics and shock (charge) infantry, and good range units after patch I think (rarely played as them). Gallic and Celtic barbarians all have good top tier infantry, and generally good melee cavalry (good for sustained fights). They are somewhat hard to counter in multiplayer. Successor kingdoms all have a good variety of top tier units in all departments. They are good for holding enemies in positions so that their (generally poor) cavalry can charge from behind, classic hammer and anvil tactic. Hellenistic states have adequate pikes and really good spears. They are also quite adequate in other departments.Ĭarthage is similarly well-rounded with their numerous mercenaries, but their mid tier infantry lack a bit of omph comparing to legionaries. They may not have the beefest units in terms of pure stat, but they are the best in cost effectiveness. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
